Get to know me
Hi! I’m Sarah Neuenschwander, a Swiss-Spanish modern gypsy who loves traveling and setting up home in a new country every few years.
Life's mysterious ways brought me to to Beijing, China, after having lived in Spain, San Francisco, back home in Zurich for three years, Istanbul and in a small quaint town in southern Norway.
Becoming an executive assistant
Many moons ago I trained and worked as a travel agent until I wanted to start earning a lot of money and work for a very prestigious company. Thus, I became a junior secretary at a Swiss company in the financial industry.
Looking back, it doesn’t surprise me that I ended up working as an executive assistant and office manager for 16 years; it’s the perfect fit for a responsible, organized person who likes to multitask.
Nevertheless, I went through a very long ‘early-midlife-crisis’ being unhappy as an executive assistant, knowing that I needed to find my calling.
Finding my calling
Me calling out must have been a whisper because it took me many years to find out what I wanted and needed to do.
It wasn’t until one day in late 2014, during a conversation with someone who I wanted to hire to help me editing my cover letters and resume, that it became crystal clear: I love organizing and helping others so becoming a self-employed professional organizer would be perfect for me!
I’ve never felt more inspired, motivated, certain and excited about work since that fateful call!
I've been in your shoes
Apart from that, I’ve been in your shoes: I shopped a lot, especially home decorating stuff and books. Moved from apartment to apartment, from country to country and across oceans. Merged households with roommates and significant others a few times and divided them again. Put my belongings in and out of storage.
Basically, my life was about keeping up with my belongings.
Starting to letting go
It wasn’t until I traveled in South America for a good part of a year with only 17 kilos on my back that I realized how little I needed to own to be happy.
Consequently, once I got back home, I started my personal journey of decluttering and letting go of much of my stuff. Not too long ago I started to radically minimize my closet and home down to the things I truly love and need.
I believe that much of what we own weighs us down and that making space not only clears the mind but also the heart. It helps us to find inner calm, reduce stress, feel lighter, and interestingly, be more energized and productive.
I’m excited that you have found your way to my website and are looking to get inspired and organized!
